Generational Collaboration
Celebrating Creativity Across Generations
I saw a meme with a character standing in a room filled with all kinds of crafty stuff. It shows the character squeezing their craft supplies into a big hug and the other character asks “what do you make?” The answer was a quick “Huh?” The end result is that the character is just enjoying having all the pretty materials and thinking of the possibilities of what could be made. This sums me up pretty well. I love art, and I enjoy creating, but maybe what I love most is thinking of the possibilities. I love the planning and preparation.
For about 4 years, I have been planning a “generational collaboration” between myself and my grandmother. We both have a creative side, for sure! When she was in her early 40’s, she took several art classes. She still has (at the age of 90!) her entire portfolio from when she was in art school. I found these and went through them and was blown away by the emotions I felt. I could feel in her art things that I feel when I write. I asked her what she thought about me combining some of her work with mine, and without any hesitation she said “of course!”
Well, this project never made it out of the planning phase…until now. I had initially wanted to create a book. But honestly, I feel pretty good about starting here. Keep coming back, as I will be adding new pieces soon! I hope you enjoy 🙂
